Anders Villani was born in Melbourne. He is an MFA graduate of the University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers’ Program, where he received the Delbanco Prize for poetry. His first full-length collection, Aril Wire, was released in 2018 by Five Islands Press.

Anders completed his PhD at Monash University in 2024. His research explores how poetry represents personal trauma, with particular emphasis on the aesthetic tension between ‘tellable’ and ‘untellable’ aspects of traumatic experience.
Anders has spoken about the intersection of poetry and trauma on numerous panels and podcasts, including Young Blood and Get Real.
